Projection Mapping has been used many times for large international sporting events, usually in opening ceremonies or an opening protocol of some sort but never in the way we used it for Doha2019 World Athletics Championships, which was in a direct connection with the sports presentation and the presentation of athletes for television.
We used just over 100 Panasonic 30K Laser Projectors along with VYV Photon Media Servers to create the first ever 400m track projection in Doha at the Khalifa Stadium.

CHALLENGE
Understanding and previsualising the accurate colour representation when projecting light onto a mondo red athletics surface along with creating a full VR experience of the projection intros for the LOC and key stakeholders to preview
SOLUTION
Along with creating a full VR of the stadium laid out for athletics with full broadcast setup we also created a 1:15 scale version of the projection on the same mondo track material to help with colour matching and colour balance.
